BB-OpenSource.Org Advisory Group

The Blackboard Open Source Advisory Group is an informal voluntary group that is actively promoting the Blackboard Building Blocks Open Source movment. Activities of this group primarily are centered on enhancing communications among members of the Blackboard Open Source Community. This includes, but is not limited to:
  1. Establishment of a Blackboard Open Source Listserv (completed)
  2. Creation and maintenance of a Blackboard Open Source Web site (in progress)
  3. Open lines of communication with the Blackboard Users Group (name being changed) to explore the nature of our relationship (SIG?)
  4. Open lines of communication with Blackboard, Inc, which should have mutual benefits for Blackboard, Inc and for the Open Source Group.

Structure of the Group
While the group is informal, the aim is to not tie the group to any particular person or institution.

Group Roles - Team Lead and Team Member.

Team Lead convenes meetings (by any media, including e-mail), and sets the agenda with input from Team members. Team lead tracks assigned activities, status, and time lines for group assignments.

Team Members - contribute ideas, energy, and work products for review by the team.

Leadership rotation - the Team Lead role rotates every 12 months among team members.

Decision Making Process
Standard Process - Decisions will be made by consensus. If consensus can't be reached, then a vote will be taken.

An alternative to group decision making will be delegating a decision to a team member (the team will use its standard process to decide that delegation is appropriate).

Size of the Group
To keep the group efficient,we are keeping it small for now, five people total. There is currently one open slot. Anyone is welcome to volunteer until we fill all five slots.

Team members are expected to contribute opinions and volunteer to do actual work as needed by the group.

Current Membership
Neal Caidin, Duke University - Team Leader (1-year rotation)
Santo Nucifora, Seneca College - Team Member
Mark O'Neil, Dartmouth College - Team Member
Patricia Goldweic, Northwestern University - Team Member
